Roman Glass Vessel Report

The glass piece is broken into numerous fragments and shards. The largest fragment is 5 cm x 5 cm; the longest fragment is 14 cm in length x 4 cm wide; three fragments are 7 cm x 4 cm; one fragment is 4.5 cm x 3 cm; all remaining fragments are 3 cm or less in length. Iridescent surface is the result of alkali depletion. Surfaces are fragile, flaking and falling off to the touch.
TREATMENT:
During treatment Pieces were assembled, arranged, and joined using 20% Acryloid B-72 (a methyl methacrylate co-polymer) in acetone as the adhesive. Excess adhesive was cleaned off with acetone swabs. (Adhesive can be undone with acetone, liquid or fumes.)

Approximately 29 fragments were re-joined. 23 pieces did not join. One large piece is probably not from this vessel. The other pieces are quite small. Two of these pieces joined with each other, but did not seem to fit onto the extant vessel. (4 hours) The vessel was photographed and a final report completed.
