   About Us

About Us

The Northern States Conservation Center emphasizes practical solutions to common collection care problems. We believe conservation treatment is part of a process that preserves our cultural heritage. Without well-trained institutional caretakers, environmental controls, and monitoring systems that alert staff to potentially damaging situations, conservation treatment is a waste of precious funds.

We offer training, consultation on museum expansion and new construction, support in grant writing and editing, and regular updates on developments in collection care. Additionally we offer skilled conservation treatment to stabilize and repair damaged artifacts of all types: three-dimensional objects, works of art on paper, books, paintings, sculpture, furniture and photographs. We use a process called phased conservation to assess the current environment, devise a plan of action to address problem areas, survey specific collection objects, and develop and perform treatment as needed. The results benefit the entire collection.
